Reinis Nitišs

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP VISITS BELGIUM

JĒKABPILS, LATVIA
10/05/2018

This weekend, the second round of the Supercar FIA European Rallycross Championship will take place in Belgium, with 28 competitors registered for the event. For Jēkabpils native Reinis Nitišs, this will be the fifth time visiting Circuit Jules Tacheny, competing in a SET Promotion prepared M-Sport Ford Fiesta Supercar.

„First round of the European Championship took place four weeks ago in Spain, but this last month has been filled with motorsports related activities. I spent a few days in Finland, working with the new rallycross talents as part of RX Academy, and I also visited the World RX event in Portugal, where I managed the SET Promotion Super1600 team. Last week, I also went to Sweden, Holjes in a similar role, to the first round of the RallyX Nordic season. In addition to that, I also took part in rally pacenote and driving practice, to better prepare for next week’s Rally Talsi. I can confidently say that in these weeks my focus has remained on motorsports!

Starting with Belgium, the two time RX2 champion Cyril Raymond will join the European Championship, and I believe that the 2017 champion Anton Marklund will also have spent a few nights thinking of how to further improve his pace. But my team has also been working hard – we have analyzed last year’s data of Niclas Gronholm, and have seen that it will be possible to set competitive times in Mettet.

As opposed to other events, the first practice sessions will take place on Friday, which will make it possible to get some first impressions a day before qualifying, leaving more time to resolve any issues. Naturally, it also works the other way around – if a competitor does not find the best setup right away, they will have more time make corrections. However, regardless of what happens in other garages, we will try and do our jobs so that it is possible to fight for a win!” comments Reinis Nitišs.
